SA: Cardiac surgery to resume following bacteria outbreak

ADELAIDE, April 6 AAP - Heart surgery at the Royal Adelaide Hospital will resume onMonday following an outbreak of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

The South Australian Human Services Department today the hospital's cardiac surgeryunit had been cleared of the methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus bacteria.

The unit was shut down on Tuesday after the bacterial outbreak.

Human Service Department statewide services executive director Brendon Kearney saidat least five people had been affected by cross-contamination from the bacteria.

SA Health Minister Lea Stevens has requested a critical incident report on the outbreak.
