Fed: Govt running up education debt Lees

CANBERRA, Jan 18 AAP - The federal government was busy running up an education debt
while it was preoccupied with debt retirement, Australian Democrats leader Meg Lees said
today.

She told the national conference of the Australian Education Union (AEU) the coalition
government was failing in its responsibility to the two-thirds of students who rely on
the public education system.

"We are all too painfully aware that Australia now spends just 4.2 per cent of GDP
