Qld: Teenage boy being interviewed over smoke bombs

Police are questioning a teenage boy after 14 people were taken to hospital when smoke
bombs were thrown into a school dance on the Gold Coast.

Police say the bombs were thrown through the window of a staff lounge room at Oxenford
Primary School around 9pm (AEST) yesterday where 60 students were enjoying a school dance.

The devices emitted smoke and fumes, resulting in students and staff being treated
for smoke inhalation.

Police say 13 students and one staff member were taken to the Logan and Gold Coast
hospitals for observation.

A police spokeswoman says officers are interviewing a 14-year-old boy over the potentially
dangerous prank.

Oxenford Primary School principal GAIL ALESSIO says students and staff will be offered
counselling.
