FED:Oil leak behind Qantas problem: ATSB=2

Mr DOLAN says it's impossible to say how close QF32 came to disaster following the
explosion .. but when pieces of an engine turbine are released the consequences are very
serious.

The most serious damage was the result of one significant part of the turbine disc
going directly through the wing of the aircraft .. and also damaging wiring.

That meant the slats of the aircraft couldn't be deployed for landing and the crew
received limited information on steering.
