ACT: Rain won't dampen ACT's New Year's Eve celebrations

Forecasters in Canberra say evening showers may have died away by the time the clock
strikes midnight tonight.

Organisers of the New Year's Eve festivities say as long as the predicted evening rain's
not enough to douse the fireworks .. it won't dampen spirits.

Crowds are slowly building in the city's centre .. where DJs will entertain younger
crowds .. while a Beatles cover band plays in the central square .. Garema Place.

From 1900 (AEST) buses through Canberra will only run from interchanges to the city
and back again.

Police and event organisers are urging anyone attending the festivities to organise
to catch a bus .. or choose a designated driver.
